I love the last show of each month. It’s our Q & A show and I love to see what our listeners are curious about with Essential Oils! And this month we got a great response and our listeners asked a lot of questions. So, without further ado, here’s what our listeners wanted to know!
Which essential oils will strengthen your nails? Lemon, Frankincense and Myrrh. All together or any one of them. I would recommend making a roller ball applicator of three drops each and either almond or grapeseed oil. Apply the oil on your cuticles and rub down into the rest of your nail. It will take a little while to see the effects, but your nails will definitely be stronger and more hydrated, and less prone to breakage and splitting. Be conscious not to use alcohol based hand sanitizer, as this is a large cause of nail problems, like splitting, breakage, dry, cracked cuticles.
What EOs are helpful with Iron deficiency and low white blood cell count? Lemon. Lemon works two-fold to help with iron and anemia issues. First, it’s high in vitamin C, so when added to your water and consumed throughout the day, it makes your stomach and digestive system more acidic to aid in the absorption of iron in the foods you eat. Next, when Lemon EO hits your blood stream, it becomes an alkaline and helps to bring your blood levels back to their natural alkaline ph levels. When our bodies become too acidic, this becomes a breeding ground for all kinds of hormone disorders, cancers, and general immune system weakness. Simply adding a drop of Lemon EO to your water each day will provide a huge difference in your overall health. You can also apply a drop of Lemon EO to the bottoms of your feet at night before you go to bed and it will help provide the same benefit.
Is there an Essential Oil for Age Spots? Frankincense. Also, known as solar lentigines, age spots are places on your skin where your body has produced excess melanin in response to sun exposure. Frankincense oil is great for age spots since it is cicastrisant (aids in healing by the formation of scar tissue), astringent and cytophylactic. As a cytophylactic, it promotes a faster rate of cell division which eventually promotes faster healing of the skin. Apply a small amount of Frankincense, undiluted, directly on the spot and it will slow fade away. If you have a lot of spots, a simple mixture of Frankincense and your favorite carrier oil rubbed like lotion on the affected area daily will yield the same results, it’ll just take a little longer.
Essential Oils for Grey Hair – Sandlewood, Lavender, Cedarwood, Sage, Thyme and Rosemary. Now, when we were asked this question, was it as a preventative question or a “how do I reverse the grey hair?” question. I thought it would be great to address both avenues. The above-mentioned combo of EOs is actually a recipe for both preventing and reversing grey hair. I’ve found this formula in supple variations, in a number of different articles in my research and thought “Okay, let’s explore this one.” I am blessed to not have much grey hair on my head, but my poor eyebrows. That is where all my grey is and I can’t pluck them anymore because they just don’t grow back. So, I will be trying out this formula, right along with you. Mix all the above mentioned EOs in equal parts in a glass dropper bottle and each night before you go to bed, put 5 or 6 drops in your hands and rub it all over where your grey hair is. People swore by this formula, so I’ll let you know if my eyebrows magically appear again. 🙂
What Essential oils help support your Immune System? Oregano, Frankincense and Cumin. Oregano and Frankincense are immune system strengthening powerhouses when it comes to preventing getting sick. Cumin in addition to these two, aids in strengthening your immune response when you do get sick. I would recommend adding a drop or two of Oregano and Frankincense during the cold and flu season to any diffuser recipe you normally use to help prevent sickness and when it does strike add that Cumin in there to bolster their power. You can also apply topically, but Oregano is pretty potent smelling and I’m not sure you want to smell like you work in a spice factory.
What Essential Oils support your Thyroid function? Clove, Myrtle and Myrrh. Clove overall helps with any kind of dysfunction of the Thyroid. Myrtle helps support underperforming thyroids and Myrrh helps overactive Thyroids. Depending on your dysfunction, place a drop of Clove with a drop of either Myrtle or Myrrh in your hands, rub together and rub all around your neck, focusing on the front area where your Thyroid is located. Do this daily and add a drop of carrier oil if your skin is sensitive. And just a side note, not from concentrate coconut water is said to be the best thing you can consume to help regulate Thyroid function. Add an 8 oz glass to your daily routine, in addition to the Lemon water we mentioned earlier and your body will be functioning normally in no time.
What Essential Oils help stop a cat from peeing in the house? Citronella, Eucalyptus and Lemon. Cats have a strong sense of smell, so they don’t take kindly to smells that are quite potent. They’ll avoid areas that have these smells and move on. A simple mixture of Citronella or a combo of Eucalyptus and Lemon and distilled water in a spray bottle will help prevent them from not only peeing in a certain area, but it will deter them from any area that you don’t want them in. Say they want to use your brand-new furniture for a scratching post, just a quick spritz on the area and they’ll find something else to scratch. Let me assure you that both of these formulas are completely safe for your kitties and won’t harm them at all.
What Essential oils help promote weight loss? Grapefruit. Yes, you’ve heard the old adage that eat a half a grapefruit in the morning and it will help deter your appetite. Well, I don’t much care for the taste of grapefruit, but I LOVE a drop of Grapefruit EO in my water and it works just the same way! Add a drop in your water throughout the day in addition to your Lemon EO and it will noticeably help curb cravings consistently and help to speed up your metabolism!
What Essential Oils will help your baby sleep through the night? Lavender, Orange and Cedarwood. Lavender, of course is a calming agent to help soothe, Orange is an anxiety fighter, helping to reduce the stress hormone, cortisol, response in the body, and Cedarwood with its high sesquiterpene content, will get into that fight or flight area of the sub-conscious brain to help promote deep sleep. Just diffuse this combo beginning 30 minutes before bedtime to start promoting that relaxing atmosphere.
And another fantastic Q&A Show goes down in the record books! Until next week, Happy Oiling everyone!
