This essential oil is one of my top three oils. I could walk around with an open bottle of this tied on a string around my neck, all day long. I’m so not kidding. It is the best!
So, a fun fact about Bergamot, it is one of the main ingredients in Earl Grey tea! It’s actually considered an orange and it’s rind is used with black tea to make Earl Grey Tea. I was always a lover of Earl Grey, growing up, so it totally makes sense for me to be in love with this oil. Let’s talk about how to incorporate Bergamot EO into your daily routine.
Now, I know I have talked about this oil over and over in blog posts and on the show, but I can’t stop talking about it’s anti-depressant qualities. It is a mood boosting powerhouse! Because it comes from the citrus family, and it’s an orange, it is fantastic for soothing anxiety and lifting your spirits. I highly recommend you use this EO aromatically, in a diffuser or make a roller ball blend on the days when you’re feeling down of anxious or depressed about anything.
One of my sons sometimes gets anxious about going to school in the mornings, especially on Mondays and I made him a special Happy blend that he keeps in his backpack and rolls on when he’s having a hard time. Here’s the blend recipe:
In a 1oz roller ball applicator:
4 Drops Bergamot
4 drops Grapefruit
4 Drops Patchouli
Fill the rest of the container with Almond Oil. Roll it on or just sniff, as needed.
Next, Bergamot EO is excellent for freshening the air and your body. Bergamot is a very popular scent for use in fragrances and body sprays. It works wonderful for reducing and eliminating body odor. If you use a liquid roll-on deodorant, you can add a few drops right in it to help! Or make your own deodorant blend like this:
6 Tb Coconut oil – melted
1/2 cup of Baking Soda
5 drops each, Bergamot, Cedarwood and Ylang Ylang.
Combine with the melted coconut oil and baking soda in one of those short glass mason jars. Use as needed. For men, substitute the Ylang Ylang, for Idaho Blue Spruce or something similar.
Also, Bergamot EO is excellent for the digestive system. It promotes the excretion of digestive enzymes which help to break down the food particles, allowing our bodies to absorb the nutrients better and pass the waste from a systems faster. The longer food waste stays in our digestive tract, especially our colons, the greater our risk of colon cancer. Bergamot EO can either be used topically or internally for this purpose. Either rub 2 to 3 drops on your stomach and intestine area of your torso or take 3 to 4 drops in a gelcap. Both methods will work similar. Just don’t rub it on your belly and then go lay out in a bikini.
Lastly, Bergamot is great as a mouthwash. It’s considered anti-bacterial, anti-septic and anti-inflammatory, so it will help to kill germs in your mouth, preventing infections and if recovering from a tooth infection, it’ll help support the healing process. Her’s a quick mouthwash recipe to try:
8 drops of Bergamot, if you want it minty, add a couple drops of peppermint, too!
1 cup of distilled water
4 tsp of Baking Soda
2 drops of Stevia or Xylitol if you want a little bit of sweetness.
Mix in a small bottle, use 1 tablespoon at a time, swish and spit. And remember to always shake the bottle really good before using.
Well, I hope you’ve learned a lot about Bergamot EO. It’s pretty versatile! I think I’ll go have a cup of Earl Grey now. Until next time, Happy Oiling Everyone!
