White Lotus is the rarest of all the Essential Oils. The Lotus flower lives and grows only in water and loves the muddiest of waters best. The flower it’s self is not rare, but the essential oil, that’s another story. It’s normally steam distilled to extract the essential oil and it takes 850,000 flowers to produce enough essential oil to fill 200 5ml bottles. That is rare. Usually if you find it in a single oil bottle form, it is the absolute version, meaning it’s cut with a carrier oil and not 100% therapeutic grade. Buyer beware….
White Lotus is fantastic for skin health!
First, it’s a moisturizing EO, and this is great for not only dry skin, but oil prone skin, as well. Usually when you have an oily skin type, it’s an indicator of one of two things. Either your hormones are out of balance or the products you’re using on your skin are stripping it too much of its natural oil balance, causing your skin to react and over produce oil to compensate. Enter White Lotus EO. Since it’s a moisturizing EO, the continued use of it with a carrier oil utilizing the oil cleansing method, will re-program your skin’s oil response, so to speak, and over time you’ll find your face will be less and less oily.
Second, it’s a restorative for your skin. It acts as a rejuvenator and exfoliant, but not as an abrasive, but as cell regenerator. We all know how the skin is a functioning, layered organ, that regularly sheds itself to maintain its appearance. Well, White Lotus EO is rich in alpha-hydroxides which cause your skin to speed up that cell-regeneration process allowing your skin to maintain a health glow, reducing the instance of rough, dry, flakey skin and reduces the appearance and healing time of acne scarring. Adding a drop in with your daily moisturizer will provide tremendous help.
Lastly, White Lotus EO causes the skin to increase its melanin response. Melanin is the chemical in your body that absorbs the UV radiation you are exposed to when you go out in the sun. That’s why our skin gets darker with increased exposure. That is your body’s defense system trying to fight off the free-radical damage that the UV exposure causes. This is why it’s so important to wear sunscreen every time you’re outside. High UV exposure breeds a host environment for cancer to develop. White Lotus EO helps to increase that melanin response above the levels that our body would normally produce. You could add a few drops of White Lotus EO to your sunscreen you wear every day. Sunbathers, I know what you’re thinking. Do not even go there…
Speaking of Melanin…
Melanin is also what gives our hair it’s color. And we talked last show about what we can use for grey hair prevention and possibly reversal. Well, White Lotus EO is another oil that you can add to your oily arsenal for anti-aging benefits. Since White Lotus EO increases your skin’s melanin response, it will increase your hair follicle’s response, as well. Add this in to the formula we spoke about in our last Q&A show or use it on its own. Just a drop in your hands, rubbed together and rubbed around the areas of your head that are more prone to greying. What was that anti-grey formula you ask? I thought you’d never ask. Equal parts Sandlewood, Lavender, Cedarwood, Sage, Thyme, and Rosemary, and now add a couple drops of White Lotus EO. Apply as mentioned above. And EOs will never make your hair oily, because they absorb so quickly and completely into your skin.
White Lotus for Emotional Well-Being
I’ve heard and read from multiple sources that your liver and gallbadder are ground zero for negative emotions. That these two vital organs, store up all the hate, anger, sadness and all the emotions in between and keep them there. THAT CAN NOT BE GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH. White Lotus EO is one of the most effective EOs for dispelling all of that hurt held within you. Not only does it help the Liver and Gallbladder to expel pent up toxins, chemical and emotional, it also helps keep the Liver and Gallbladder from reabsorbing them. A simple mix of a dime size amount of carrier oil and a drop of White Lotus EO rubbed across the area of your mid-section where these organs are located, will help not only lower your body’s physical toxicity levels, but it’s emotional ones, as well.
Boosting your Immunity with White Lotus
White Lotus EO is rich in Beta-sitosterol or B-Sitosterol, which is a kind of plant sterol that your body utilizes to help produce its T-cells. What are T-cells you ask? The folks at the UnderGround Health Reporter did a great job of explaining it:
T-cells, aka “killer cells,” crush foreign invaders and infections, including abnormal cells such as cancer cells. T-cells are able to manipulate immune system cells both by activating and suppressing them. For instance, a malfunctioning immune system overloads your body with dangerous antibodies that scavenge and attack healthy cells. This overproduction disrupts appropriate autoimmune response and causes chronic illnesses, such as lupus, MS, chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Beta-sitosterol is able to not only control the overproduction of antibodies, but also help T-cells function more efficiently. When T-cells cannot do their job, as is the case with AIDS, the immune system deteriorates rapidly.
Puts a whole new perspective on “eat your vegetables”, right? White Lotus EO is rich in these sterols, BUT White Lotus EO is not approved for internal consumption. Simply diffusing it and using it topically will be all you need to do to reap the benefits of this health boosting EO. Even a wonderful hot bath with this EO will help you tremendously. And one other note, do not use this EO if you’re pregnant. I’ve read a few places to refrain from its use during this time. I couldn’t find a definitive reason why, but let’s just be cautious.
Well, that’s it for this week’s oily adventure! Until next time, Happy Oiling!
