Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
In honor of the most love focused day of the year, we’ll be talking about one very lovely essential oil today! Oh, Ylang Ylang eo, how I love thee, let me count the ways… This oil is so versatile in the systems it supports. It is an anti-depressant, sedative, hormone balancer, cardiovascular and skin health aid and an aphrodisiac. Among a million other things.
So, let’s start with one of my favorite uses for Ylang Ylang, a hormone supporter. Any time someone asks me what will help them with the symptoms of Menopause or PMS, I always recommend Ylang Ylang. It has the great ability to help balance your body’s female and male hormones. Progesterone, Estrogen and Testosterone. They all play an important part in how our bodies function and for anyone of these to reach unbalanced levels in our bodies creates a problem. It’s mainly Estrogen dominance that causes issues with our cycles. That topic is in and of itself a whole other show that I promise we will do soon! So Ylang Ylang for your hormones can be used multiple ways. I would first recommend a topical blend to use during your monthly cycle. I would mix equal parts: Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, and Lavender with the carrier oil of your choice and rub this across your abdomen twice daily for the duration of your cycle. For those of you whom suffer from low thyroid during that time of the month, rub this across your neck as well. I would also recommend for those of you that are experiencing chronic symptoms to add a couple drops of Ylang Ylang to your daily vitamin routine. If your already taking oily gel-caps, add a couple drops of Ylang Ylang in there, as well. Also, you can use the above-mentioned blend in your diffuser to counteract the mental effects that your cycle has on you, as well.
That brings us to our next topic, Ylang Ylang as an anti-depressant. It is a considered a sedative, so having this in your diffuser will calm and lower your stress levels. Ylang Ylang helps your mental state by soothing you, and promoting feelings of self-love, confidence, joy and peace. Ylang Ylang and Bergamot would be an anti-depressant powerhouse in your diffuser.
Ylang Ylang is wonderful for your heart, as well. It improves blood flow and helps prevent inflammation. It’s a natural blood pressure remedy so simply mixing one drop of Ylang Ylang and one drop f a carrier oil and rubbing that across your heart every day, will help your cardiovascular health tremendously. And again, it can be taken internally mixed in with your tea or taken in a gel-cap, just a couple drops will do. 100% therapeutic grade only though for internal use. And make sure you mix it well in your drinks otherwise it floats on the surface and you get Ylang Ylang lips. It’s self-explanatory.
Ylang Ylang is also wonderful for skin health! It promotes a “youthful-glow” by fighting signs of aging and irritation, and it actually helps prevent the development of skin cancer cells and melanoma. That’s wonderful for you outdoorsy folks! Just two drops mixed with the carrier oil best suited for your skin type and massaged into your skin. I do an oil cleanse everyday instead of using regular facial cleansers and I’ll surely be adding this one to that regimen.
Now, lastly… In honor of Valentine’s Day, Ylang Ylang has long been considered an aphrodisiac. Trust me, it works. It has been used over and over to help with low libido, impotence and frigidity (female impotence). Because of its blood flow promoting properties, it’s anti-depressant qualities and its hormone balancing skills, these all play into why it works so well to boost the “mood”. So I’m going to share my favorite mood inducing blend with you. You can thank me next show. J I prefer this blend in the diffuser, but you can use it as a “perfume” when you don’t have a diffuser handy. Equal parts Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood and Idaho Blue Spruce. Yes, I know it seems like a weird combo, but yes, it works and works well. If you use it topically, take a drop each with a light carrier oil and apply it anywhere you would wear perfume and inhale the lingering scent in your hands, as needed.
Now go enjoy Valentine’s Day and have a love filled oily day! Happy oiling ya’ll!
