For the Love of Northern Lights Black Spruce

Northern Lights Black Spruce is grown primarily in northern Canada and parts of Alaska where the typical temp is around -40. You Florida listeners where WAPN is located, I don’t want to hear any whining ever again about the cold. Northern Lights Black Spruce is on the milder, sweeter side scent wise in the evergreen family. But it’s therapeutic benefits are just as powerful.

We’ll start today by looking at the fact that Black Spruce EO is high in alpha-Pinene which is part of the terpene class. Alpha-pinene is found in most coniferous tree essential oils but it’s also found in Rosemary EO and Satureja EO also known as Savory. Alpha-pinenes present in essential oil allow the oils to be a bronchodilator, an anti-inflammatory, almost antibiotic-like, and a memory aid.

First, Northern Lights Black Spruce is going to be your best friend when it comes to helping support your body with respiratory issues. Because NLBS is high in alpha-pinenes, it’s bronchodialating nature allows for increased airflow within the lungs while you’re sick. It also aids the body in expelling mucus for faster healing. A couple of ways you can use NLBS for respiratory support is the old kitchen pot method and in the shower. First you can put a few drops in a pot of rolling boiling water, throw a towel over your head and inhale deeply for a few minutes. Or you can put a couple drops with a carrier oil on your chest in the shower. Just remember, with topical application of NLBS, it is considered a warm oil and may cause skin sensitivity when used alone or “neat”.

Next, NLBS is great for urinary-tract health. Because of its anti-inflammatory and semi-antibiotic properties, it will allow for soothing of any burning pain and swelling, and aid in killing the bacteria associated with the infection. Take 5 drops with a quarter size carrier oil in your hand, rub them together in your hands and then rub all over the lower abdomen and lower back. Apply often until you start getting relief and this is a great preventative for urinary health for those of you prone to these types of problems.

NLBS is great for hormone health. It supports overall in the regulation of hormone levels. Adrenals, thyroid and pituitary gland (the master gland which regulates all the other glands and hormone levels) all gain support by using this oil. Especially during the winter months, your adrenals suffer from lower activation and chronic lethargy due to our lowered activity levels. Rubbing a few drops of NLBS with a carrier oil across your lower back will help to activate the pituitary gland and help with relieving hyperthyroidism which is an overactive thyroid. It will help support normal function throughout. It’s also said to encourage normal water weight in the body. Not allowing swelling and combating de-hydration.

Now emotionally and mentally speaking, NLBS is a powerhouse. A lot of spas and saunas diffuse NLBS and utilize it in their massage regimens, to aid in the mental portion of restoration during your visit. Because of its high content of esters, one of its fragrant chemical components, it helps us with regulating our emotions. When diffused, it helps penetrate our limbic system by way of esters and monoterpenes to help aid in the release of emotional blocks. Emotional blocking is essentially when you chose fear over love. It comes from emotional stress that inhibits your ability to identify and feel certain emotions. In a lot of cases, keeps you from forming deep relationships with others. It’s more common than you think. Let’s see what the bible has to say about this:

We have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out all fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.  – 1 John 4:18

God tells us over and over to fear not. He loves us and he’s got this. He’s forever in control and means everything for our good. We will experience the ups and downs of life. The hurts and the pains, but we have His promise also in Romans to rest on:

All things work to the good to those that love God, and are the called unto his purpose.                     – Romans 8:28

I encourage you if you are having some kind of emotional block happening, to take a combination of NLBS, Cedarwood and any citrus, Grapefruit would be great, and diffuse that during your time with Him. Focus on His love and sacrifice for you and how you can use that love and His thoughts toward you as an emotional shield, not to prevent the world from hurting you emotionally but to help you to begin to lean into Him during those times. He wants you to hand it over to Him and not let it cut you off from life, relationships and experiences. Okay, let’s all let out a collective sigh of relief. *sigh*

Well, what an educationally and emotionally charged post! It never ceases to amaze me that God made provision for us and our emotions thousands of years ago, at the beginning of time when he made essential oils. Keep that perspective in your back pocket and continue with your Happy Oiling! I know I will!
