An Ode to Pine

The majestic pine tree. What a valuable source for essential oil love. I have Pine EO in my home and I love it. I use mine in a mental health enhancing blend for the diffuser but I’ll get into that in a bit. I’ve got a fun fact for you about Pine. Did you know that the Native Americans used pine for their bedding? It chased away lice and fleas. I can already imagine you pet owners out there. Time to invest in a whole box of Pine EO. Hey, why not?! You could get a spray bottle of distilled water with a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol(to help disperse the oil) and put 10 drops of pine in it, shake it up and mist it all over your favorite pet’s belly and back. I’d be careful around their face. Let me know how that works for you!

Moving on, Pine is multi-faceted in the way it helps you physically and mentally. It’s anti-bacterial, anti-viral, antineuralgic, an expectorant and a stimulant. Anti-neuralgic means anti-nerve pain. Yes…

*fist bump*

Pine EO is great to have in your first aid kit. It has the ability to hit all the basic medical needs in case of emergency:

Feel a cold coming on? Got a sudden sore throat or dry cough? Put Pine in your diffuser and it will quickly dilate and open your respiratory system, particularly your bronchial tract. It actually allows the body to expel mucous faster, in turn helping the body fight of infection better since it doesn’t have to expend so much energy trying to clear out the lungs. A simple one, two punch of 1 drop each of Eucalyptus and Pine EO, mixed with a few drops of the carrier oil of your choice rubbed across your chest, neck and upper back will do wonders. Since Eucalyptus is considered a “hot” EO, I would recommend a bit thicker carrier oil be used, such as avocado oil, for those of you with sensitive skin. The same combo in the diffuser, 5 drops each, will do just as nicely.

Speaking of feeling not your best, how about that headache? Pine EO is great for that! A lot of the time, whether you realize it or not, a good number of headaches are brought on from toxins floating around in the air, becoming a trigger for your body to react to. Pine actually helps to neutralize those toxins. Just a drop of Pine and a drop of carrier oil rubbed on your temples or upper chest will help relieve you of that lingering ache up there. Pine EO is also excellent for helping with tension and stress headaches, too. Use it the same way. Feel one coming on? Grab your bottle of Pine and sniff straight from the bottle and it will help quell that pain.

As I mentioned before, Pine is a go to for my mental health. Cedarwood, Pine, Vetiver, and Peppermint all equal parts, goes in my diffuser almost daily to help support my mental faculties and focus. We’ve talked about the high levels of terpenes in Cedarwood, the way Peppermint supports your memory and mental energy levels, and Vetiver is fantastic for focus. Just add Pine in that trifecta and you’ve got a mental gold mine diffusing all around you. Pine is great for mental fatigue, stress and anxiety relief and depression. They even recommend you put a few drops in your bath at night to help soak away the stress of the day.

Also, Pine is for pain. Relief of it to be exact. Pine has been shown to directly reduce nerve and joint pain associated with gout and is great for pain relief from burns. It is an anti-inflammatory and anti-neuralgic. It helps calm and soothe the area around the joints that have swollen and become inflamed. It also inhibits the nerve endings from becoming overactive and sensitive causing sciatic pain, specifically, as well as, general nerve pain close to the skins surface. And studies have shown that Pine EO has the ability to not only lessen the pain from burns but to regenerate the skin cells around the affected area to allow it to heal much quicker. What exciting stuff! I would take a mix of equal parts Pine, Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, Copaiba and Lavender with a carrier oil, and rub directly on any areas of concern.

And lastly, Pine is a great disinfectant for your home. And could you imagine that heavenly scent while you’re doing it?!  A simple spray just like the one we mentioned for your pets would work great to disinfect in the kitchen and bathrooms. It’s also great for deodorizing your carpets, too.

And the sums up just a few of the amazing oily benefits of the one we call Pine. Until next time, Happy Oiling!
