I love me some chamomile tea. You grab your blanket and a good book on a chilly day and sip away into the greatest state of relaxation. Well, chamomile will do that to you. It’ll fix just about anything. Even other plants! Did you know that it’s nicknamed “Plant’s Physician”? I didn’t either! It’s said that when one plant is ailing, you just potted chamomile plant next to it and it perks it right up. Talk about medicinal greenery. For the whole week leading up to the show, I kept running into roman chamomile references everywhere. Every oil blend I was using, every time I looked up what oil’s good for what, etc. I guess our timing was perfect on this show!
Roman Chamomile EO is naturally anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, and antispasmodic. Oh, and it’s relaxing and calming. J One of the great uses I discovered while doing research is that it is absolutely fabulous for airborne and skin allergies, as it actually helps to block the histamine reaction in our bodies! Mix with your favorite carrier oil and rub on rashes, eczema, even hives. Or mix with some peppermint in your diffuser and it’ll clear up that allergy stuffiness in no time! You can even put it on a cotton ball in the air vents of your car while you’re out and about to combat that those sniffles. I think I’ll use my hubby as a guinea pig for this one. He has sneezing fits off and on every Spring and Fall.
Roman Chamomile EO is very similar to Lavender EO in a lot of ways. They’re considered a great substitute for each other. Topically, it’s considered gentle enough to use on babies and small cuddly children, diluted some, of course. And it’s great for putting in the bath as a skin soother and mind calmer for the little ones. It’s great for adults too, to relax and mentally decompress after a long day. I bet a double whammy of Lavender and Roman Chamomile in the diffuser at night would soothe the crankiest of babes and add a few drops of Orange EO and good-bye Colic.
One thing I found interesting about Roman Chamomile was it was used by the ancient Romans to clear their minds and to strengthen them with courage before going on the battlefield. I’m always looking for solutions to the scatter-brainedness I suffer from having ADD and brain fog. And I found in some of the blends I use for mental wellness, Roman Chamomile is a prominent ingredient. As I started to study why, it’s considered to be so calming and clearing, I found that it has one of the highest levels of esters in all of the essential oils. Esters are considered a sedative in nature. They’re a reaction of alcohol to an acid and cause a lot of the fragrance that you smell when enjoying EOs. And we learned last week, just what those fragrances do to our emotional center. So Roman Chamomile is excellent for your kiddos that are struggling with focusing on their tasks and schoolwork. Try diffusing it during homework time, again with some peppermint, to help them focus and retain all the information they’re learning. It’s also great for staving off depression, and anxiety. Its calming benefits will relax you during stressful times, allowing you to release any anger, equalizing your emotions, and even helps you to release emotions linked to past events.
I don’t know about you but I think I’ll be buying stock in this EO! Try it yourself and let me know some of the ways it benefits you in your daily life. Until then, Happy Oiling!
