Coooo-pay-ba. Yep, that’s how you say it. And I bet you’ve never met this wonder oil. Well, it sure wants to meet you and introduce you to all of its oily goodness. Let’s expand our holistic horizon while Copaiba educates us on its benefits.
Where the heck does this stuff come from? Left-field?? It is distilled from the resin of several leguminous or flowering trees in South America, mainly Brazil and Ecuador. Most people use it as a varnish or lacquer but it’s really excellent for the whole body.
Copaiba has a plethora of benefits. Anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious, moisturizing, skin rejuvenating and regenerating, etc. AND one of my own personal “favorite things” about Copaiba is that it acts as an amplifier to which ever other oil you use with it! Can you imagine the soothing benefits of Copaiba and Lavender EOs on your achy body? Let’s talk about that!
So, last week I challenged any moms out in radio land to try a smidgen of Copaiba EO on their babies’ sore, teething gums. Well?? See what I mean?! It totally works like Ora-gel but no harmful chemicals. Now think about that on a grander scale with your body. Its anti-inflammatory benefits not only reduce the pain and throbbing of those little gums, it can also help to reduce the joint pain from arthritis, gout, fibromyalgia, sciatica, and even headaches. It’s even great for injuries, as it not only helps to relieve the pain of the skin stretching during scar formation, it helps to speed up skin regeneration and scar formation. Just lightly apply it around the healing wound and it will work its anti-inflammatory magic. And while you’re at it, next time one of your littles, cuts or scrapes themselves while gallivanting across the countryside, put a drop or two of copaiba right on the wound and it will prevent any kind of infection. And if they get bit by any insects, Copaiba works wonderfully to reduce the pain and inflammation that comes with the creepy crawly encounters.
Speaking of putting Copaiba on your skin, it is fabulous for skin support in so many ways. First, acne! Take a drop or two of Copaiba EO on a cotton ball and dab on your acne and in no time, the redness and irritation will subside. Also, Copaiba is an emollient and an astringent. Meaning its moisturizing and it helps skin cells to tighten. Yes ladies. It is a wrinkle reducer. Also, it promotes collagen and elastin production, acting to promote skin plumping and firmness. Just add a drop to your moisturizer and watch it support that youthful and healthy glow. And it’s great for stretch marks. Again add a little to a carrier oil and rub into those marks and it will promote that skin tightening and collagen, elastin production to actually fill in a lot of those marks.
Let’s talk about Copaiba and its internal benefits. As one of the safest oils for you to take internally, it can be added into foods and drinks as seems palatable. I highly recommend taking it in a gel capsule instead. And a little goes a long way. Internally, it acts to help support the reduction of internal inflammation, particularly the lower half of our bodies. It does take a little time to reach its full potential in inflammation relief but the results are definitely noticeable. I have more than a few friends that take Copaiba and other oils in capsules every morning as part of their healthy regimen. Copaiba is also wonderful for varicose veins. Topically and internally, it helps to support healthy circulation by allowing the blood to drain from those areas of your legs and reduce pooling.
Another really great use for Copaiba EO is for your littles that have a problem with bed-wetting. Every night we rub a combo or one drop of Copaiba and one drop of Cypress on their abdomen right before bed and it makes such a difference in the number of accidents they have over night. It works to support the toning of the muscles of the bladder and urinary tract, reducing the instances of incontinence.
And lastly, with one of the highest sesquiterpene counts of many of the EOs out there, it is considered an excellent mood enhancer, helping to relieve nervousness and tension. Yes, there we are. Righ back to the soothing uplifting benefits of Lavender and Copaiba EOs again. Everything always comes full circle, doesn’t it? Now, go rub some on and take a nap. Rachel’s orders. 🙂
